Welcome to The Hike Of The Century Hiking to Increase Knowledge of Environment Introduction: This element of the Hike-2000 project empowers ordinary people to become involved in non-confrontational environmental activism. Taking a H.I.K.E. doesn't imply that you must embark on a journey of any long distance. Only the hiker defines what his or her hike will be! A H.I.K.E. dedicated to increase knowledge of your local environment could easily provide a learning experience for you, your local community, and everyone else involved in the Hike-2000 project.
Define Your Own H.I.K.E.It's easy to turn a daily walk, or some other low impact outdoor activity, into an event that will create a learning experience for us all. While you're participating in your activity, just take a few minutes to take a look around, and you may be surprised what you see. You may notice an existing environmental condition that has been overlooked by others. Document what you see and write something on your observations. There may be important environment issues that are taking place in your local community! Take a H.I.K.E. and share what's happening! All you need is a little of your own creativity, imagination, and ingenuity and you can help create a learning experience that will benefit others, and help promote environmental awareness. We want to link to your activity. If you walk or jog through your community on a daily basis, enjoy family outings, enjoy camping, or embark on a long distance outdoor activity- chances are you could provide a learning experience just by documenting your observations. So make your plan and share it with others at The Hike Of The Century Workshop (the Workshop). We are eager to help you get started on your H.I.K.E. The Hike Of The Century has defined a H.I.K.E. as almost any low impact outdoor activity that incorporates non-confrontational activism to increase knowledge of our environment. The goal is to get people outdoors, encourage close examination of the environment around you, and to share your observations with us. Tell the world what you see through those eyes of yours!
The Hike-2000 Project is evaluating the feasibility of sponsoring a variety of H.I.K.E. events. These events would make it possible for anyone to have a voice in their own community, and perhaps allow them to experience their own outdoor adventure too. Without the funding many people who dream of great adventure outdoors are unable to live their dream. The Hike Of The Century works diligently to publicize The Hike-2000 Project, promote sustainable development, and make dreams come true. Any future operations will be driven
by our ability to satisfy our goals, mission, and vision for the
future. In addition, future operations will be effected by our
ability to practice effective non-confrontational environmental
activism. Any description of future operations will consider The
Hike-2000 Vision, and will be described in detail in our after
comprehensive after action report (info). |
The
Hike of The Century is an element of the Hike-2000 project that works
to publicize the Hike-2000 project and promote sustainable
development. This element of The Hike-2000 Project encourages
and empowers almost anybody to become a
Every
year a substantial number of people line up to begin their own
adventure. Starting at Springer Mountain, Georgia, these unique individuals embark on an outdoor adventure, most commonly referred
to as a thru-hike, and challenge themselves to walk over 2,000 miles.
The common goal, their dream, is to reach the northern terminus of a
very long trail: the summit of Mount Katahdin, Maine. The trail that connects Springer Mountain to
Mount Katahdin is perhaps the most famous trail in our National Trail
System: The Appalachian Trail. Are these hikers missing out on an
incredible opportunity?
